The five-pointed star represents hope shining in the darkness - pointing upwards the star is symbolic of aspiration, light, and Divine guidance. The mystic spiral which has been used since paleolithic times (from approximately 2.5 million years ago to 10,000 B.C) signifies a return to the still center where the secret of life is found. In, in every culture and in every age, man’s symbol of the progress of the soul towards eternal life.The blue and green wavy lines on either side of the shaman are symbolic of the sky and earth between which the figure exists. The lightning symbol in the center of the shaman is considered spiritual illumination, enlightenment, revelation, and the destruction of ignorance.
All the work in my Shaman series is inspired by the 4500-year-old Lower Pecos River pictographs which are one of the most complex forms of rock art worldwide. I have combined that with my understanding and research of mythological symbols throughout the world.
